Yanmar is a family owned company with a long tradition of diesel engine manufacture. Having been founded in 1912 in Osaka, Japan, the company developed its first diesel engine in 1930 and now produces over 550,000 engines per year in its factories worldwide.
Yanmar engines are used by the world’s leading manufactures of equipment in many fields, such as lawn & garden, construction equipment, refrigeration and material handling. These companies all appreciate the reliability and durability of Yanmar engines, the engineering and service support offered by Yanmar worldwide and especially the superb torque back up created by Yanmar’s own direct fuel injection systems. Yanmar engines are also renowned for their compact dimensions, high power density, low noise and minimum vibrations.
To maintain its position as one of the leading manufacturers of small diesel engines, Yanmar invests heavily in the development of new, improved and more environmentally friendly engines using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment in its modern Research and Development facility in Japan.
The Yanmar TNV range of diesel engines on show at the exhibition demonstrates how this investment in R&D pays dividends for the equipment manufacturer. These engines all meet the EPA Tier III (> 37 kW), Tier IV (< 19 kW) and EU 97/68 Stage IIIA emissions regulations at the same power outputs as the Tier II / Stage 2 versions without increasing the engine capacity or the external dimensions, creating the best power density in their class. This is possible because of the expertise Yanmar has built up over the years in combustion technology and fuel injection equipment design and production.
Yanmar’s own unique electronic control system, the ECO Governor, is standard on engines >37 kW and optional on 19 to 37 kW engines. It communicates with the machine’s other electronic components via CAN-BUS achieving benefits in engine speed optimization, fuel consumption and noise. It also eliminates smoke at start up and under acceleration.
The basic concept of these engines will not change for Tier IV (>37kw) after 2012, because the ECO Governor enables them to meet these regulations without any reduction in power output, using the same engine block as current versions. So equipment manufacturers can design their machines around a Yanmar engine today, safe in the knowledge that they will not have to redesign their machine for the next stage of emissions regulations.
In the power range up to 8 kW, Yanmar’s new L-N Series of single cylinder air cooled diesel engines has been developed to be up to 2 dB(A) quieter than its predecessor to help equipment manufacturers meet the stringent noise emission regulations for mobile machinery in the EU. The L-V range of air cooled diesel engines has been developed specifically to meet the latest EPA Tier IV emissions regulations.
Yanmar’s commitment to ecological sustainability and a healthy environment does not stop at fulfilling the worldwide exhaust gas emissions regulations. Yanmar strives constantly to develop and improve clean diesel engine technology using environmentally friendly production processes. The new Yanmar factory in Biwa, Japan is the proof of what can be achieved in environmentally friendly manufacturing.
Yanmar’s mission to be “Innovators and leaders in harnessing energy, while contributing to an environmentally sustainable society through the delivery of unrivaled products and services” sums up Yanmar’s commitment to its customers and to the environment
